The 2025 CiteScore, an annual journal influence indicator supported by the Scopus database, was officially released recently. CiteScore evaluates the citation impact of journals and books based on citations accrued over a four-year window, offering one of the most widely used benchmarks of a journal’s standing within its field.

We are proud to announce that Waste Disposal & Sustainable Energy (WDSE), the official journal of the Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology Council (WtERT), has seen its CiteScore rise to 7.4, according to the latest release from Springer Nature. In the Environmental Science discipline, this places WDSE in the top 25% of journals in its field — entering the Q1 quartile for the first time.

The new CiteScore places WDSE among the top-performing journals in its subject categories:

• Pollution (Environmental Sciences): Ranked 44th out of 180 journals
• Waste Management and Disposal (Environmental Sciences): Ranked 41st out of 151 journals
• Renewable Energy, Sustainability and the Environment (Energy): Ranked 116th out of 345 journals

This achievement reflects the growing influence and international reach of WDSE as a multidisciplinary platform for research on low-carbon waste disposal, waste treatment, and sustainable energy technologies. Since its founding, the journal has served as an important outlet for WtERT’s global network of researchers, engineers, and policymakers working at the intersection of waste management and clean energy. Reaching Q1 status marks a significant milestone, affirming the journal’s position among the leading publications in its discipline.
