WtERT Vice President and Chair of WtERT USA, Prof. Marco J. Castaldi Contributes to Environmental Law Institute Debate on Chemical Recycling

We are pleased to share that Prof. Marco J. Castaldi, Chair of the Chemical Engineering Department at City College of New York, Vice President of WtERT® and Chair of WtERT-USA, has contributed to the latest Environmental Forum debate, published by the Environmental Law Institute (ELI), titled Chemical Recycling: More Pollution? Or a Sustainability Solution for Plastic?”

In his article, Let’s Get the Most Out of Plastic Waste Prof. Castaldi highlights the vital role of advanced recycling technologies; such as pyrolysis and gasification; in addressing the limitations of mechanical recycling. Based on rigorous academic research and real-world data, he defends a comprehensive, science-based strategy to recover materials and energy from post-use plastics while minimizing environmental impact.

His perspective emphasizes that solutions to plastic waste must be grounded in facts, technology readiness, and environmental best practices. He also underscores that the emissions from these processes are regulated, manageable, and comparable to those of hospitals or universities when properly handled.
