About WtERT Asia
The WtERT Asia Regional Network serves as a platform to advance sustainable waste-to-value systems across Asia, fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers.
WtERT’s engagement in Asia was established early through strategic collaboration with leading industry partners in China, including China Everbright Environment Group, one of the world’s largest waste-to-energy developers. During this period, WtERT activities in Asia were hosted in Nanjing, supporting knowledge exchange, technical dialogue, and the advancement of waste-to-energy solutions across the region. Leadership from industry figures such as former CEO Chen Xiaoping played a key role in strengthening this cooperation and expanding WtERT’s presence in Asia.
Today, the WtERT Asia Regional Network is hosted by Columbia Global Centers | Beijing, reinforcing its connection with Columbia University’s Earth Engineering Center (EEC), where WtERT was originally founded.

Our Flagship initiatives
WtERT Asia implements its activities through a portfolio of meetings, webinars, training programs, and regional engagement initiatives designed to foster collaboration and accelerate knowledge exchange.
The inaugural WtERT Asia meeting was hosted in Nanjing in partnership with China Everbright Environment, bringing together experts from over 15 countries to exchange knowledge and advance waste-to-energy solutions across Asia. This landmark event established a strong regional platform for collaboration and innovation
WtERT Asia webinars convene international experts to share best practices, technologies, and policy insights. The 2022 series, co-organized with Columbia Global Centers | Beijing, explored innovative solutions and practical applications of waste-to-energy systems across different regions.
WtERT Asia supports capacity building through targeted training programs, including regional workshops such as the North Africa training initiative, aimed at transferring knowledge and strengthening local expertise in sustainable waste management and energy recovery.
Through its hosting at Columbia Global Centers | Beijing, WtERT Asia connects with a broader ecosystem of academic, policy, and industry events, contributing to ongoing dialogue on sustainable waste management and circular economy solutions.
