Celebrating Global Knowledge Sharing and Unity at the Closing Ceremony of the International Training Workshop

On November 8, we gathered to celebrate the conclusion of the International Training Workshop on Waste-to-Energy – an event hosted by Zhejiang University (ZJU) and co-organized by Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT) and the International Consultant Committee on Waste-to-Energy (ICCWtE). With support from WtERT, the workshop brought together 20 participants from 15 countries, including Algeria, Cambodia, Egypt, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, Peru, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Thailand, and Vietnam. United by a common goal, these participants aimed to learn and advance sustainable waste-to-energy (WtE) solutions to address the needs of a changing world.

Throughout the program, participants explored the technical aspects of WtE, witnessed China’s infrastructure innovations, and experienced the country’s vibrant culture. These experiences fostered connections and created memories that will extend far beyond this workshop.

This gathering in Hangzhou was more than a transfer of knowledge; it was a commitment to action. As we confront unprecedented climate challenges, particularly in the developing world, sustainable waste management is essential for protecting communities and our shared environment. Equipping nations with the knowledge and tools to manage waste responsibly – and to move away from unregulated landfills and their environmental impacts, particularly methane emissions – is a critical step toward a resilient, low-carbon future.

Perhaps the most powerful outcome of this workshop was the unity it fostered. By bringing together diverse minds and expertise, we are laying the foundation for a global network capable of driving meaningful change. Each participant leaves not only with technical insights but also with a newfound sense of solidarity and purpose, knowing they are part of something greater than themselves. When knowledge is shared across borders, it becomes a bridge – linking nations, sparking collaboration, and creating a ripple effect that extends well beyond individual countries or organizations.

A heartfelt thank you to all the participants, lecturers, and organizers who contributed to this success. Together, we are building not only sustainable solutions but also a global community dedicated to protecting our planet. Let us continue to fuel this passion and collective resolve as we work toward a cleaner, greener world for all.
