WtERT® Joins ISWA and CAUES to Promote Global Waste-to-Energy Solutions

The Global Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology Council (WtERT®) is proud to partner with the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) and the China Association of Urban Environmental Sanitation (CAUES), ISWA’s national member in China to promote one of the most significant global events in the field of sustainable waste management.

Hosted in Xi’an, China, from July 2 to 3, 2025 (with optional site visits on July 4), the ISWA Global Waste-to-Energy Conference will convene world-leading experts, policymakers, researchers, and industry pioneers to share knowledge, build partnerships, and advance the role of Waste-to-Energy (WtE) in solving one of today’s most urgent environmental challenges: the management of residual, non-recyclable waste.

Why China?

China is now home to 1,049 WtE plants, processing 254 million tons of waste in 2023 with a total installed capacity of 24,852 MW. As the largest WtE market in the world, China has successfully integrated WtE into its national waste strategy—contributing significantly to greenhouse gas reduction and establishing a scalable model for others to follow.

This event provides a unique opportunity to learn firsthand from China’s transformative journey and explore how these solutions can be adapted and implemented in Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America, and beyond.

WtERT’s Role

WtERT Board Members will take part in key sessions and discussions during the conference to share global insights, support technology and policy exchange, and promote international collaboration in the field of WtE. Our mission remains clear: to advance sustainable energy recovery from waste while reducing dependence on landfills and cutting methane emissions.

We invite our entire global network from academia and industry to government and NGOs to attend this pivotal gathering.
